Camera is not important - I

I have been shooting with my dSLR (Canon 350D, now a relic of last century, but still working) ever since I caught the photography bug. Over a period of time, I learnt one or two things about photography. One of them is that camera is probably the least important in photography compared to photographer and lens.

So anyways. Last year, I bought a new-fangled 'smart' phone - Nokia N900. Well, it is definitely smarter than other smart phones out there, but more importantly, it comes with a good lens (for a mobile device) from Carl Zeiss. The sensor of camera is not bad either. You can do basic edits (like cropping, contrast and brightness/darkness adjustment).

Also, N900 repository contains some interesting applications (repository = App Store, application = App for those born after 2005). One of them is "Classic Print" - basically it makes your picture look like as it it was taken with old cheap plastic camera. Another one is "HDR Capture" - it does what it says - takes HDR picture after analyzing current scene and calculating the range and number of pictures it needs to cover required range.

Now before I continue, I have to say this - these applications themselves wont make it anything a great picture - it completely depends on the photograph itself and how you use the applications.

So here are few shots taken with N900 - most of them are edited in the device itself for cropping and contrasts, some of them are edited with Classic Print, and two are with HDR capture.

Following were edited with Classic Print.

And these were results of the HDR Capture.

Technical specs:
Carl Zeiss optics, Tessar lens
f2.8/5.2mm (31.2mm equivalent adjusting for sensor size)
